You only need a standard 45lb olympic weight barbell and some weights to put on it.
Squats and the different variations of the squat will work your stomach, butt, hips and thighs.
1 bar and about 300lbs worth of weight are my favorite equipment.
References :
An exercise ball. I get as much benefit from that as I do with all the equipment I use at the gym. It can really do a good job on the areas you're talking about. If you buy one it usually comes with instructions on how to do various exercises and sometimes it comes with a DVD.
References :
Eliptical all the way. I would have a different opinion for a man. A man really should go for a bowflex...which is also great for women(dont get the knock off) It must be a bowflex.Oh and if you get an eliptical get the one w/ handles that take your bpm and an adjustable incline. I love mine, I am now able to burn about 280 cals in a half-hour-and still getting better.
