What is the best way to make your own workout equipment?

It’s way to expensive so I thought I would use concrete to make some weights but then I need a bar and i can afford a bench but i also need a rack, and any thoughts on how to construct a punching bag stand would be greatly appreciated as well. Any body got any ideas. oh kettle bells and dumbbells too but any advice would be awesome

Check out rosstraining.com
Two of the best training implements you can make are sandbags and kegs.
I personally havent put any together yet because Im the member of a gym and im trying to get my moneys worth there. We do have a 150lb keg though and I love it. I do overhead press, cleans, squats, side lunges, and i carry it for distance.
Another implement I like off this site is the medicine ball. Im not sure how heavy you can make it following their directions though.

Another site to check out is straight to the bar.I dont remember if it was there or not,but I know there is a site that teaches how to make a squat rack. I think it requires some welding though,so you have to put some time and some labor into it.
I think they teach how to make a stone bell, which I imagine could be adapted to making concrete weights.
Honestly once you get a rack you might be able to get by with a $25 burst resistant ball as a bench. I have witnessed them hold up 440 lbs.
If you decide to buy secondhand weights, make sure you dont screw yourself over by buying ones that dont fit

What work out video/show or fitness equipment would you recommend?

We’re getting ready to attend a wedding in April and we’re trying to slim down a bit, especially around the waist/abs. We’ve got two little boys, so going to the gym is out right now. Is there anything you can recommend that isn’t too time consuming and produces results?

I highly recommend TURBO JAM!!! It’s will never get boring and it will leave you feeling awesome. Plus it doesn’t hurt that it tones your body also.

I need recommendations on weight lifting equipments?

I want to buy an exercise equipment so that I can build muscles and gain more strength. I need a recommendation on which one to buy. I don’t have a lot of money. I just need one to keep me going in college.

honestly, you just need to go find a park with some bars. doing squats, push-ups, and pull-ups will effectively work all of your major muscle groups. just some notes on each:

1. squats: go do all the way to incorporate more hamstring activation. variations would be jumping, one legged (or lunges), or both. there’s also different stances you can take.

2. push-ups: wide, narrow, explosive (pushing yourself off the ground for a second), and eventually one handed.

3. pull-ups: change grip from palms facing away to palms towards you. a more advanced technique is to stagger to one side, meaning pull more with one hand than the other.

if you can get your hands on some adjustable dumbbells, that’d definitely help. you can add deadlifts and rows to your workout.

Best Exercise Equipment for Weight Loss?

January 31st, 2010

I am looking into buying a treadmill or an eliptical, and was wondering which would be the best one to get for someone who wants to lose weight in the belly, upper legs/thighs and the behind? I dont want to spend more than $500. I am also open to any ideas you have on other exercise equipment that would help with what I want to do.

I agree with everyone that the elliptical or treadmill is great, but a rebounder (mini trampoline) is something that would be helpful to add to lose pounds and burn fat.

Google: "rebounder weight loss" for a lot of information.

For me, 20-30 minutes per day on the rebounder, 5 days per week, with walking (or elliptical) works best to burn fat. Also add some light weights. Best of luck!

What is the best strength training equipment to get if you want nice muscles?

January 31st, 2010

The reason I need to know the best strength training equipment is, I want to gain muscle as fast as I can. I am going on a trip this summer to Hawaii and I want to look as good as I can

I like your nickname Salad Fan, I love salads too. I understand you wanting to find and buy a big, bulky and expensive piece of strength training equipment, but you really don’t need to do that. In fact, you will most likely get much better and faster results if you don’t buy a machine at all.

I have been working out for years, and I use only body weight exercises. I do use an apparatus a few times per week that helps me do the exercises at a higher level, but you don’t need anything at all to start seeing great results. When you use your own body weight as resistance, you will get a really great balanced look. When you use a machine, or heavy weights, you can end up looking a bit unbalanced and too pumped in some areas while looking too thin in others. That isn’t what you want.

I am going to show you how to get started but it is important that you talk to your doctor first to make sure it is OK with him or her that you start an exercise program. If you have done that, then you are all set.

This will be a four week program, meaning that after four weeks, you will want to substitute new exercises for these. You will workout 3 days per week alternating between the “Workout 1”, “Workout 2” and then “Workout 3”. So for instance, on Monday you will do 1, 2, and then 3. Then on Wednesday, do 2, 3, then 1 and so on. Here are the workouts:

Workout 1:

Lying Hip Extension (3 sets and 8 reps each)
Plank (3 sets 15 seconds each)
Prisoner Squat (3 sets 12 reps)
Bird Dog (3×5)
Kneeling Push-up (3×8)
Side Plank (3×5 sec per side)
Ab curl-up (3×15)

Workout 2:

Push-ups (3×15)
Inverted Row (3×8)
1 Leg Squat (3×8) each side
Bicycle Crunch (3×30)
Bulgarian Split Squat (3×8)
Elevated Push-up (3×8)
Reaching Lunge (3×8)
Mountain Climbers (3×12)

Workout 3:

1 Leg Dead-lift (3×8) each side
Chin-Up (3×6)
Step-ups (3×12)
Slow Push-ups (3×10)
Prisoner Lunge (3×8)
Close-grip Push-ups (3×10)
Plank (3×24 seconds)

These will get you started and seeing results. Don’t quit and keep at it. If you don’t understand how to do any of the exercises, you can visit my site listed below and look through the resources on my there. You can also ask me questions there if you need some clarification. Good luck!

Tennis fitness training?

January 31st, 2010

Hello, this is regarding on what equipment I should look into to train and improve my fitness, particularly for tennis. I’m not sure what are the essentials and would like to get my info. I’m currently looking for a foam roller and resistance bands, but cannot find specifically for tennis.
Thank you for your help.

I am a competitive junior tennis player and I train everyday for at least three hours. In terms of fitness and conditioning there is not too much equipment we use. Do alot of running, long distance (at lease 1 and a half to two miles) and if you have acces to a track or a field of some sort do some sprints and short distance bursts. We also use hand weights (about 10 pounds usually) and we do a number of different exercises with them. A medicine ball is essential especially if you have someone to toss it with. Toss it back and forth like you are hitting your strokes, also throw in some other toss types. Always be sure to stretch regualrly, tennis uses most body parts making pulling something a fairly easy task. We use rubber resistance bands for both our arms and legs, and last but not least we use a wooden box that we jump on and off of (works your legs out). I hope this helps and good luck! Keep playing tennis it is the best sport out there! You can play it for your entire life!

Which exercise equipment will take the weight off between a treadmill or an exercise bike!?

January 31st, 2010

Posted by admin in exercise equipment | 1 Comment »

I need to lose 130 pounds by December 31, 2010, and I am thinking about getting an exercise equipment to help me take this weight off, between a treadmill or an exercise bike which one will take the weight off faster and healthier.

I’d go with the treadmill, preferably one that will incline. But take it slow, that’s alot of weight to lose. A treadmill will work more parts of your body than a bike and once you get your cardio improved, add in some hand weights. Good Luck!

How to build six pack without gym equipment?

January 31st, 2010

i’m looking for a workout that builds ab muscles! i don’t have time or money to visit the gym so need exercises that i can do at home without gym equipment!

any ideas?

You should do crunches, forget sit ups, they’re useless (in my opinion).

Do about 20, rest for 45 seconds and repeat 3 times. You can add weight, like hold something heavy to your chest to make it harder.

Another one, which does your lower abs, is to hang off that ridge thing on the door and lift your legs. Really hard when doing it first time, but still a good’n.

What is the best piece of cardio equipment I can buy for my home?

I’d like to know which brand is best in quality, durability and maintennence.

Which type is better (ie: treadmill, elliptical, etc) if I’d like to mostly use it to gain more endurance and a stronger heart.

Also, if you know, roughly what would be a fair price for it (I live in Northern New Jersey, near NYC)?

Treadmill is better for Indoor activities. You can just go to a price comparison website and compare the price. Both ebay products as well as amzon products will be visited alongside. You just need to select a brand based upon your budget.
